Chai tea is traditionally made using “black” (or builder’s) tea which is not ideal for children as it contains caffeine which is a stimulant. We have created this recipe as a delicious alternative, and it is perfect as a winter warmer during the colder months. The spices are brilliant for the digestive system and it would also work well as a lovely sleep-inducing bedtime drink.
Spiced Chai
Serves: 2 cups
Ingredients
- 250ml almond milk (or coconut milk)
- ¼ tsp cinnamon
- 2 slices of fresh ginger
- 2 cardamom pods, lightly smashed
- 1-2 tbsp agave syrup
Instructions
- Place your coconut or almond milk into a saucepan and gently heat.
- Next add your slices of ginger, cinnamon and lightly smashed cardamom (simply crack open so that the seeds and pod can infuse into the milk) and simmer altogether on a low heat. Leave to infuse for a few minutes and then taste. Add the agave to your liking and serve warm or hot.
Notes
This is deliciously warming and perfect on a rainy day.
